Wayne Ellington's season is over thanks to a separated shoulder. The guard had a career year, including 36 games as a starter, and will be someone the Lakers strongly consider bringing back next year.
the Dwight Buycks pickup now makes a lot more sense for the Los Angeles Lakers,th who announced today that guard Wayne Ellington would miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder separation. The unfortunate injury ends what has been a career year for Wayne, who initially wasn't expected to make the Lakers regular season roster.
After proving his value during the preseason Ellington was slotted as a backup guard for the Lakers, but injuries to Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Nick Young pushed him into a starting role for the majority of his games with the team. He used the opportunity to prove that his shooting could be a major asset, and as the season went on he even showed surprising skill as a playmaker.
Ellington made headlines just weeks after the season began when his father was tragically murdered on November 9th, 2014. His ability to successfully return to the Lakers after such a devastating event is a testament to his character and drive as an athlete.
Wayne Ellington will now head into the summer as free agent and Lakers Coach Byron Scott has expressed interest in seeing him back in purple and gold next year. Regardless of whether he finds his way back to the Lakers or not we here at SS&R wish him a speedy recovery and the best of luck in the future.
