Jodi Arias Sentenced To Life Without Parole

Convicted boyfriend killer Jodi Arias has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
Arias, 34, narrowly escaped a death sentence in March after jurors split 11-1 in favour of execution at her penalty phase retrial.
The lack of a unanimous verdict forced the judge to declare a mistrial, thus removing the death penalty as an option.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens had the option of sentencing Arias to life in prison or a life term with the possibility of parole in 25 years.

Arias was convicted in 2013 of the brutal killing of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.
She testified at her trial that she acted in self-defence - a claim she stuck to while addressing the judge at her sentencing on Monday.
"When I was on the stand I told the truth," Arias said.
"I do remember the moment the knife went into Travis' throat and he was still conscious. He was still trying to attack me."
Mr Alexander was murdered in his Phoenix-area home in 2008.
His body was found in a shower, and in addition to his throat being cut, he had multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the face.
Members of his family fought back tears as they urged the judge on Monday to sentence Arias to life without parole.
Mr Alexander's sister, Hillary Wilcox, described the difficulty she now has taking showers because of the memories of her brother’s death.
Prosecutor Juan Martinez said a natural-life sentence was "appropriate, not because the family is vindictive but because what happened in that bathroom was a butchering".
The family" feels that blade going into them", he said. "Travis' screaming rings in their ears."

Luis Enrique says draws are no good

The Barça coach knows Sevilla are very tough to beat at home and that his players need to be on to win on Saturday night

Luis Enrique knows that Saturday’s match between FC Barcelona and Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán is going to be tough. "We’ll have to play very well to beat them," he said in Friday’s press conference.
After the morning training session, the Barça skipper talked about his team going into the toughest stretch of the season. He knows going up against Unai Emery’s squad is never easy, but a win is fully expected. "Draws are never good for us."
Ever the optimist, Luis Enrique sees his team in top form at the moment and said that it was no surprise that they are where they are at this point in the season. “It's always easier to win when you play well,” he said. “Until now our season is going pretty well.” When asked about how his team can stop Sevilla and their potent aerial game, the Barça coach was direct. “We'll try to do what we do best,” he explained.
Here are some of the highlights of what he had to say:
"Sevilla are one of the most complete teams in La Liga, and the standings prove it."
"In the first half of the season they played touch and go and pressed other teams. But over the course of the season they’ve evolved a bit into something simpler as far as football is concerned. But it’s just as effective, if not more.”
"There's no way you can judge Denis Suárez and Deulofeu based on one game,"
"Our players are seasoned veterans when it comes to dealing with rumours and controversies. It doesn't affect them at all."
"In the end we have to win titles. The toughest part is yet to come."

Gunshots Fired At Fenerbahce Football Team Bus

A club official says that attackers were trying to "crash the bus and kill the players" by opening fire with a shotgun.

Shots have been fired at a bus carrying Turkey's Fenerbahce soccer team, injuring at least one person, according to the club.
Reports on Fenerbahce TV said the driver had been injured after the bus came under repeated attack from a shotgun.
The driver was hit in the face and taken to hospital, the club's vice president Mahmut Uslu, who was on the bus at the time, said.
He accused the attackers of trying to "crash the bus and kill the players".
The vehicle was hit as it drove to the airport following the team's 5-1 away win at the Black Sea side Caykur Rizespor in Turkey’s Super Lig.
There was no mention of any injuries to anyone else but the driver.
Several pictures of the bus were posted on the club site, revealing a shattered side window and damage to the front windscreen.
The pictures also showed blood on the driver's seat and the steering wheel.
The bus was going over a viaduct on its way from the city of Rize to the airport in Trabzon to return to Istanbul.
The Turkish Football Federation released a statement condemning the attack.

Belgium School Forces Muslims Students to Wear Mini Skirts

The School of Ursuline, a Christian institution in the city of Mechelen, Belgium, prohibits Muslim students from wearing long skirts and long sleeve shirts.
The school, which has already banned female students from wearing headscarves and any other religious signs, has reportedly forced students to roll up their sleeves and their long skirts.
A few weeks ago, students were stopped at the entrance of the school and asked either to roll up their skirts or go home, according to Le Vif.
“During the mathematics course, the teacher told me: your dress is not appropriate for this school, keep it for the mosque. I have been dismissed from the course and called into the principal’s office. They also called my parents,” a student told the Belgium daily De Morgen.
However, in a press release, the school denied these claims as “false information” that served to “undermine the institution,” which is confined to regulations.
The school added that the regulations simply make sure the clothes do not impede movement, in order to prevent students from falling.
However, it seems that the school regulations do not apply to everyone.
According to the same source, a student said, “There are even teachers who have piercings in the nose while these are not allowed in the regulations. When I mentioned that, they just told me that all religious signs are forbidden.”

Blind man completes Tough Mudder, vows to run in Boston Marathon

A New Hampshire man who lost his vision due to a neurological disease is not letting it stop him from completing some of the world’s toughest challenges.
Randy Pearce, who at 22 became blind and was forced to rely on a wheelchair, recently completed a Tough Mudder competition and is now setting his sights on running in the Boston Marathon, MyFoxBoston.com reported.
“I was frustrated and angry and all the reactions you’d expect because loss is hard,” he told the news station. “It’s like how much do you have to rebound from, how much do you have to climb up from? And the answer is however much is there to climb.”
Pearce first learned to walk again, and then mastered running. He’s climbed all the mountains in New Hampshire and completed three marathons within the past year.
“When you can’t walk, you learn what a gift it is to celebrate walking, climbing,” Pearce told MyFoxBoston.com.
A video of him swinging on a rope and ringing a bell at a Tough Mudder competition in California recently went viral.
“Don’t get me wrong, I have tough days and there are things that I try to do that frustrate me that are a lot harder because of my blindness,” Pearce told MyFoxBoston.com.
But Pearce– who loves turning obstacles into opportunity— hasn’t forgotten how quickly life can change and the importance of having a positive outlook.
“Henry Ford was probably right. Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re probably right, you have to start by believing,” he said.
