Van Cleef & Arpels is selling the Complication Poétique Midnight Planétarium for a cool
$245,000. It’s a 369 part watch that displays the first six of our NINE (you’ll always be
planet to me, Pluto!) planets orbiting in real time. As in, mini Mercury takes 88 days to
make a rotation around the mini sun, Venus takes 224, Earth a year, Mars in 687 days,
Jupiter in 12 years, and Saturn in whopping 29 years. Strangely enough, the watch is not
solar powered which I think would have been appropriate. I know, pretty genius idea. What
can I say, I’m ahead of my time. Well, that’s one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is
that I’m a stoner who occassionally has a clear moment, producing a quasi-good idea. But
personally I prefer the first description.
